The Family of God provides us with direction and encouragement to follow God and eventually discover His plans for our lives
+ Naomi was there when Ruth needed advice
+ Ruth had Boaz's protection, hence able to glean safely

Therefore, it is important for us to have the Family of God with us. To follow God's way is never an easy task, but with the family of God playing the supporting role, it becomes easier for us to continue the journey.

2. In difficult times, being amongst God's family will help remind us of God's promises
and blessings, thus keeping us focused on trusting God

By choosing to remain in God's family, we will be able to remember God's blessings and have
God's favour with us.

How can I apply this in my life?

It is important to belong to the 'right' team if we want to go 'beyond' with God.

Believe in God's family
Ephesians 5: 8-10 (The Message) talks about God's instruction to us when we decide to follow Him. It is ot just LIP service that we should do, but concrete actions. When we make that decision, we must believe & make the commitment. May our actions & decisions reflect our words.
You groped your way through that murk once, but no longer. You're out in the open now. The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So no more stumbling around. Get on with it! The good, the right, the true—these are the actions appropriate for daylight hours. Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it.
1 John 3:1
What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we're called children of God! That's who we really are. But that's also why the world doesn't recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who he is or what he's up to.

Openness within God's family

Ephesians 4:15
God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other.

Speak the truth in love. Sometimes we may not like some people or somethings among us, but
if we want to remain in God's family, we must speak to the person in truth (openness) and in
love, so that it does not hinder our individual walks in church. There should not be any
pretension, false flattery and lies if we want to have meaningful fellowship. Be real with one
another.

Nobody is nobody in God's family
Proverbs 16:4,9
4 God made everything with a place and purpose; even the wicked are included—but for judgment.
9 We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.
There is nothing wrong to be amond non-believers. But be aware of the acts & decisions you
are involved in. Be strong & be firm in knowing what you should not participate in because of
the love of the life God has entrusted you

! What is the point of doing something that does not put you closer to God?

We all have our natural weaknesses. We fail; we sin. But when we are in an environment that promotes us to walk closer to God, it makes a difference. This is the significance & importance of going to church and growing in it. Everybody's presence does matter in the fellowship of Christ.

Decide to be part of God's family
1 Thessalonians 5:11
So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you'll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you're already doing this; just keep on doing it.

Decide to stay in a fellowship that helps you to grow closer to God. God's plan for us is laid out clearly, but it depends on our OWN choices. Ruth made the choice to stay in God's family and so she could endure the hardship and eventually experiencing God's blessings.

! Whatever little you may think you have, it still matters in the expansion of God's Kingdom.
Things you do may be insignificant and go unnoticed in this world, but it is significant in God's world and reaches a far greater good. Being in God's family gives us the opportunity to give to the Lord.

Don't let human conflicts (spiritual warfare) stop you from coming into the Body of Christ. Always look at the greater purpose- to give unto the Lord.

Conclusion:

Believe in God's family. It can help you discover God. When you choose to avail yourself, God will DEFINITELY use you.

Lesson: You may not like everybody, but instead of being judgmental, are you committed to speak in truth, pray for the other party etc?

Ask yourself: Can you be accountable to someone? What do you want to be committed to?

Adonai League Champions

Our senior boys bagged the Adonai Championship Title after months of tough fights.

The formation of the current team was in 1993 when the then youth pastor, Dennis Tan had a vision of reaching out to street kids, although COA soccer team has been in existence for years. Thus the concrete formation of Ascension Football Club started in 1993.

A team with strong footballing tradition, the team has participated in various competitions and church leagues through the years.

After years of seeing team members going separate ways, the team got together again to participate in the Adonai Soccer League. The team is using this platform to rekindle friendships, fellowship and making new friends. Of course COA always has the fighting spirit to do well in all competitions.

We entered Adonai as newcomers in 2007 and finished top 6 which was a commendable effort and the team is looking to do better in 2008. So look out for the dark horse of the competition.

A Tribute to Vanilla.

Vanilia was missing for a few weeks and was finally found today. However, what was seen was a lifeless body lying in the drain. Vanilia is known as Ascension's cat because of its frequent catwalks around our premises, and sometimes even sneaking into our Youth Room. She has been a favourite among the youths as well was the 'aunties' in our church.

Rights, now that i've gotten down to doing this...First of all, a HUGE thank you to Wayne and Kelley for the amazing way in which they have blessed the ministry and many members of the church during the workshop and the worship service. And also to all those who came down for the workshop, worship service and all who have extended their hospitality to Wayne & Kelley, you guys have really blessed them greatly :)

The workshop was a real reminder for us in the worship ministry to be authentic in our worship to God, and to always focus more on God and less on ourselves; 'More of Him, Less of Me'

Kelley's sharing at the service really reminded and taught us about our identity in Christ and our Lord's undying Love for us. So many teens & youth were blessed and touched by the spirit during the time of prayer and it really showed that even though this was their first time at Ascension, God has really put a message in their hearts to bring to us.

Before this post becomes too long winded, I want to wrap up by once again thanking Wayne & Kelley for the incredible Worship Workshop and the amazing worship & sharing at the Worship Service. God has really used the both of you to bless us at COA and we wish you God's Grace & Blessing upon your ministry back at Grace Fellowship United Methodist Church and also especially in your work among the Bees. Wayne Kerr is an anointed songwriter and worship leader. He is based in Texas and is stopping by in Singapore en route to Japan to play at conferences there. Wayne is accompanied by his wife, Kelley, who serves as a Jr. High Youth Pastor to over 200 youths at Grace Fellowship Church. Wayne and Kelley have been on several mission trips to Indonesia and are passionate about reaching out to youths.

God has given us this fantastic opportunity of hosting Wayne and Kelley Kerr here in Ascension. We are greatly blessed to have them lead us in a Worship Service and a time of sharing of God’s word.

With his experience as a worship leader and musician, Wayne will share with us some pointers and fresh insights during our Worship Workshop. This workshop is great for those currently serving in the worship ministry and anyone who has an interest in this area of service. Wayne will touch on topics like "Performance vs Service" & "Creative Worship Leading.”

So do come join us worship and learning from both these God gifted individuals, and let your thirst be quenched by the streams of living water that flows from the throne of God!

Despite the wet weather, the soccer game went on as planned. God is great yea!
The BBQ was awesomely awesome as usual, doing it the COA style.

Give thanks to those who worked hard behind the scene, our chefs of COA, and those who prepared all the food. We defintely had a good time of fellowship with people from the Teens and Youth, as well as the Young Adults.

Our very own annual Coffeeshop Nite is back once again!

This event focus on thanksgiving to God for the wonderful year that He has blessed us with. Certainly, many may experienced many ups and downs from a challenging year that has passed and we want to honour God for allowing us to go through this year with in love and thanksgiving.

Here's the programme list...

Every year, we are so blessed and fortunate to have very genourous parents donating very delicous food to bless all who attended the event that night.

In addition, LKC Hall was decorated with 'homely furnitures' such as lamps, sofa, cushions and mats to give everyone a honely feeling. While watching the performances that we have offered to God, we could sit back and enjoy the offerings. It was indeed a great time of fellowship and a time of homecoming (literally) for many.

We're very blessed by God's faithfulness time and time again. On that night, the weather was fine and it did not rain for the whole day despite the rainy season that Singapore currently experiencing.

God has always been faithful and loving to us despite our sinful self and we want to than God for graciously forgiving us even though we do not deserve such grace at times. Let us look forward to the coming year, yet another opportunity to be a living testimonial for all and be a salt and light to the world. (:

Carols By Candlelight 2006

Ascensionaires celebrated Christmas by holding our annual Carols By Candlelight 2006 at the...well, Sanctuary. And yet, we're given another opportunity to thank God for the wonderful that He has done in our lives.

On the 23rd of Dec, many people came to church to prepare, rehearse for the big event for the following day. Roger, together with his team did a fan-ta-bulous job, in ensuring that everything's proper in God's direction.
The logistics team set up all the necessary equippments by 6pm so that the full dress rehearsal could be done at 7pm right outside the main entrance of our church. From 400 over chairs to big big stage lights, everything was done manually, in hope that there would not be rain.

The rehearsal went smoothly and ended at around 9pm. Because too much work was needed to be done to keep the equippments and set them up again the next day, the logistics team had to make a decision to stay over to safeguard every single inch of the area. You could actually see tired bodies sleeping outside, at the main steps of church.

At around 11.30pm. There was a slight drizzle. Many people who were still in church, gathered around to pray.

The rain continued on, but the logistics team braved the rain and pressed on to enure that all the equippents were shelthered from the rain. Night fell and the rain continued pouring.

The very next day, we had Christmas Eve Service at 5pm, followed by a scrumpcious dinner over at the Junior's School canteen. It was still drizzling slightly and almost impossible to have the event outside our church without getting anything wet.

In the end, a tough decision was made to have the event up in the Sanctuary. The logistics team moved all the equppiements up the Sanctuary and worked efficiently so that the event could start at 8pm.

There were performances from the Chinese Minitsry, the Men's Ministry, the Northern Thailand Mission Team, the Worship Ministry, the Teens and Youth Ministry and many others.

The event ended with carols being sung over and over again. Everyone was having a great time despite of the very wet weather and change of location. Though physically exhausted, everyone enjoyed themselves and had a great time of fellowship. Unfortunetly, the night wasn't young and the emcees for the night had to end the event. The event ended at around 9.30pm and many stayed on the help clear up the event and ensure that everythign was back into place and ready for Christmas Service on the very next day at 10am.

Indeed, through everyone single one's hardwork and effort put it, it was a thanksgiving offering to God that made Him smile. (: Friendships were made and relationships were strengthened. Through this event, God has taught us to remain faithful and have shown us His mercy in continously providing for us.

We would like to thank everyone who has made everything possibleon that night with God's strength.

Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin;
pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord.

Lamentations 2:19

God gave us a vision for worship night, that those who came would clap, that those who came would jump, that those who came would bow down on their knees in worship. In short, those who came would pour out their hearts like water in his presence. So the people said, 'Lord, let not our will but yours be done.' And worship night truly went in accordance to his will for his people.

A humble vision at first, but God took that little vision; and used it so mightily to move the hearts of his people. During the first meetings of the committee, the backbone of this event was outlined. That if God was going to do any work in this event, the hearts of the committee must first be set right before God. There was much prayer in the preparation for worship night. The devil tried his best to distract us and pull our focus off, and 2 weeks before worship night, the spiritual health of the committee was at an all-time low. But God reminded us what this event was all about. Worship should be our gift to god, and that worship should be a lifestyle; not just singing songs and praying, but living our life as a worship unto God.

When worship practices started, there was so much to do. The team had to get themselves familiar with the songs, and they had to practice very hard to prepare almost 20 songs in less than 3 weeks, and in only 4 practices. Practices were tough, starting early and ending late at night. Eveleen, Jasmine and Kimberly worked tirelessly on the slides and video for publicity and for the intro to the first song. The logistics team was amazing, no job too tough to handle, and no problem too difficult. Setting up for practice took almost an hour, not including sound checks, so we are very proud to say that God indeed blessed us with a first class logistics team.

18th November, the big day. The excitement and anticipation certainly showed on the faces of the people. The ministry met at 4 to pray for the event, and that was followed by a final practice for the worship team. The worship team met together again for a final prayer meeting before the event kicked off. We started at 7:30pm, and God really moved through the hearts of the people and the sanctuary was really filled with the presence of God. Dennis shared God’s word with us, emphasizing on our hearts and lives. That our everyday living should be a worship to God, not only about singing songs; and that our lives should glorify God.

Our prayer for worship night is that worship night will not be an event that came and went. But that worship night would be a night where we dedicated our lives once again to God, to live in obedience to him and to set our heart’s desires in accordance to his word; that the ordinary things we do in life would become a worship to God.

1st Roof Top BBQ

Once again, its a Saturday night after the looong weekend. Ascension's Teens and Youth gathered together for a Roof top BBQ on 28 October 2006.

Before that, we had a great time of Captain's Ball as there were new friends around and followed by the boys' weekly soccer.

Dark clouds gathered and we hoped that they'll soon go. However, true enough, it rained. By then, the sound system was set up by the Logistics Team, the fire was started, and everyone was anticipating for the BBQ excitiedly.

No, we did not just stop there. We prayed. We prayed for God's love to clear the dark clouds so that we could continue with what is installed. Many of us people prayed while the rest helped to bring in all the stuff in the rain. Thank God that the sound system were alright and the fire did not go off.

Thankfully, by God's grace, the rain stopped in 20mins. We carried on with the BBQ.

During the night, the weather was really good. There wasn't much haze in the atmosphere and all of us were simply have a great time talking, eating and most importantly, fellowshipping. We had a short time of Praise and Worship before we hit the food. (:

The view of SAV from above is indeed nice even at night.

Time flies when your having fun and soon enough, we had to say our good-byes. The roof top was being washed with pails of water and everthing was back into place. In fact, the roof was cleaner than it was before thanks to the hard work of the teens and youth.
